Donna Wilson, age 87, a longtime Jewell resident, died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services are 1:30 pm Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the United Church of Christ in Jewell. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation is 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday evening at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Memorials may be given to the United Church of Christ or the Jewell Home Lunch Wagon hot meal program.
Donna June Gabrielson was born June 30, 1926 in Jewell to Oscar and Goldie (Johnson) Gabrielson. She grew up in the Ellsworth and Jewell area, graduating from Jewell High School in 1943. Following graduation she worked at Ames Laboratory while they were working on the Manhattan Project. On February 28, 1947 Donna married Harlan Dwayne Wilson at the Methodist parsonage in Webster City. They farmed near Jewell; Donna also worked at the South Hamilton Elementary Library and as a cook at the school. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Jewell. Donna enjoyed knitting and all family activities, especially those with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Donna is survived by her children, Sue (Dave) Gordon of Jewell, Bob (Mona) Wilson of Jewell, and Kathy (Rod) Twedt of Princeton, Missouri; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie (Paul) Roberts of Albany, Oregon; also sisters-in-law, Betty (Quentin) Roosevelt of Pensacola, Florida, Pat Wilson of Sterling, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlan in 2011; brothers Udell, Robert, and Arlen; and sisters, Ruth Spence and Ferne Smid.
