Stratford healthcare workers to receive honors

STRATFORD - Two staff members from Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center have been selected for Excellence in Long Term Care Awards from the Iowa Health Care Association. Jodi Berns-Lennon and Karen Fehrman will receive the honors during a statewide convention to be held Sept. 30 in Des Moines.

Jodi Berns-Lennon was named Distinguished Director of Nursing by IHCA. Berns-Lennon joined Stratford NRC in 2012 bringing with her more than 20 years of nursing experience. Staff and colleagues have much praise for her skill, expertise and leadership.

"Jodi has enacted several program to improve communications," says Physician Assistant, Penny Osborn. "The quality of care has improved greatly since she came on board."

"She brings out the best in people," said Administrator Diane Rollins. "She is an excellent teacher and mentor to new staff."

Business Officer Amy Laube said, "She is truly a wonderful team leader who is always supportive and is there for everyone in any way she can be."

Karen Fehrman will be receiving an Excellence award for her esteemed work as a Certified Nurse Assistant. She has been providing care for residents at Stratford NRC since 1999.

"Karen brings skill, experience and a positive attitude to her work," said co-worker CNA Nikki Zeigler. "I see Karen as a leader who always does her job to the best of her ability. She wants our residents to get the best care possible, and I see her, in action, doing just that."

"Karen can always be counted on doing the right thing," said Rollins. "She is a direct and fearless advocate for the residents in her carehas excellent organization skills, and has volunteered her own time to work on various projects."

The Excellence in Long Term Care Awards are presented by the Iowa Health Care Association and Iowa Center for Assisted Living. IHCA ICAL, located in West Des Moines, is a nonprofit trade association that represents 667 nursing homes, assisted living programs, residential care facilities and home health providers in Iowa.
