FOREST CITY - The 10th-ranked (Class 4A) Webster City volleyball team went 3-2 and placed third at Saturday's Forest City Invitational, as the Lynx were again unable to get by tournament champion Algona and runner-up and No. 11-ranked (2A) Lake Mills.
Algona edged WCHS (17-4) in pool play in three sets (21-9, 19-21, 15-10), while Lake Mills squeaked by the Lynx in the championship pool (15-21, 21-15, 17-15).
All four of the Lynx losses this season have come against Algona and Lake Mills, the first two coming at Algona's season-opening tournament on Sept. 7.
"The girls competed well and we had our chances to beat both teams we lost to, but unfortunately we weren't able to convert," WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. "But we won big in some other matches, so that was good to see."
Saturday's loss to the Bulldogs put an end to the Lynx 11-match win streak.
WCHS picked up 2-0 wins over North Union (21-14, 21-12) and North Iowa (21-13, 21-10), as well as a 2-1 triumph over Forest City (17-21, 21-11, 15-11).
