WAVERLY - A sixth-place finish for the senior boys' group and a seventh-place result for the sophomore girls' squad paced the Webster City cross country teams at last night's Dick Pollitt Go-Hawk Classic.

The age classification meet is one of the larger meets on a yearly basis and the tough competition pushed the Lynx back in the pack.

Brandon Arkland's 19th-place run in 18 minutes, 46 seconds was tops for the senior boys. Adam McMurray crossed the finish line in 19:24 to place 28th.

"Our boys competed particularly well," WCHS head coach Tony Bussan said. "I thought our senior boys gave a great effort."

Courtney Biere and Allie Flaws both broke into the top 20 for the Lynx sophomore girls. Biere turned in a time of 18:21 and finished 14th; Flaws was five places back in 19th in 18:35.

Other girls' class leaders for WCHS included Sarah Paukert (19:58, 34th) for the sophomores and Morgan Shannon (18:17, 17th) for the seniors.

Shannon turned in the top overall performance for the Lynx girls.

"Morgan Shannon, in particular, went out very strong and battled throughout," Bussan said.

The remainder of the Lynx boys' leaders included Trey Nelson (21:18, 23rd) for the freshmen, Connor Foster (20:19, 19th) for the sophomores, and Seth Crouthamel (19:26, 31st) for the juniors.
