Peterson Contractors of Reinbeck were awarded the contracts for two road projects in the county. The Board of Supervisors awarded the contracts Tuesday during regular board session.
The projects include work on three culverts in Blairsburg Township. A total of four bids were submitted with Peterson Contractors turning in the low bid of $407,121.30. Board chairman Doug Bailey said that the winning bid came in 8 percent below the engineer's original estimate of cost.
The second project is for grading and paving of 230th Street and Estes Ave. The work is in conjunction with the expansion of Van Diest Supply Company. Peterson Contractors again had the low bid of three bidders for the work - $947,813.85. There were three bids for the project ranging from the low bid to a high of $1.17 million.
In a related matter, the board passed a resolution approving a bond purchase agreement for the projects.
"This began at the last meeting with a hearing on the purchase agreement in the amount not to exceed $1.35 million," said Bailey. "The agreement is for the hard surfacing of the south half of Estes Avenue, and 230th Street from U.S. Highway 17 to Estes Avenue."
"This will provide a new and better access to truck traffic that exists now as well as for the growing traffic that is coming," he said following the Aug. 27 public hearing on the matter.
Supervisor Wes Sweedler said that the bonds for the loan agreement will be paid off entirely by tax revenues from Van Diest Supply and its expansions.
