Heather Kierzek announced her intention Tuesday to seek a seat on the City Council of Webster City in the upcoming November election.
Kierzek joins Logan Welch, Matt McKinney and Linda Conaway in the race for three seats on the council.
Kierzek and her husband, Brian, moved to Webster City in 2005 after her husband accepted a position at Electrolux. Kierzek feels running for the City Council is a way to give back to the community that has welcomed them.
"I feel Webster City is a great place to live and raise a family," Kierzek said.
She said she wants to continue to make Webster City a strong community where people want to live and work.
"I also want to be a positive example for the youth in our community and encourage them to be involved and active citizens. I want them to be proud of where they live."
Kierzek is employed by the Webster City Community School District as the Juvenile Court School Liaison. She is co-sponsor of student council, sponsor of Homecoming and Winterfest festivities, and is the Varsity Girls Tennis Coach. She is also in charge of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, PBIS, program at the high school and is currently the President of Power Up Youth.
She also volunteered during RAGBRAI and is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. The Kierzeks have two daughters, ages four and two. Kierzek has a Bachelors degree in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice from Iowa State University. Her husband recently completed his Masters degree and is now employed by the Webster City Community School District as a high school science teacher.
