DAYTON - On Sept. 2, Mike Williams and Tom Powers will be hosting the 1st Annual "Kickstands Up For Kathlynn" and "Drivin' For Dezi Fun Run."
On May 20, 2013 Kathlynn Shepard and her friend Dezi Hughes were kidnapped on their way home from school by repeat offender Michael Klunder. Hughes was able to escape and run for help, but Shepard was unable to get away.
The first annual fun run will start in two separate locations: The North Route will start in Algona at Harley Davidson at 11 a.m. working its way south to Dayton. The South Route will start out at Montana Mikes Steakhouse, NE 14th St., Des Moines at 12p.m., working its way north to Dayton.
Registration is $20 per vehicle and will include a t-shirt and wristband. Registration in Algona for the North Route is between 10 and 11a.m. Registration for the South Route in Des Moines is between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. Both routes will meet at 3 p.m. at The Iron Saddle in Dayton, where they will all converge as one, to make a lap through town and around "Kathlynns Tree of Hope" before winding back to the Iron Saddle where there will be food, a live auction and live music to finish off the event.
A live auction will be conducted by Haman Auction from Stratford. It will be held at 4 p.m. at the Iron Saddle. Auction items include: autographed guitar by Kid Rock; autographed football by Deion Sanders; autographed Maroon 5 CD and photo; autographed Rusty Wallace racing jacket; autographed Foreigner electric guitar and many more items. A portion of the proceeds raised will go to the Chelsea Shield Foundation, which is helping the Shepard and Hughes families to change the laws in Iowa to keep violent sex offenders behind bars for life.The Sharon Jackson Project and BeaverCreek will end the night with live music.
