Edward A. Nelson, age 70, of Stratford, entered into rest on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at he Israel Family Hospice House in Ames due to a long battle of cancer.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 10, at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 901 Moore Street in Stratford from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with family present at this time to greet friends. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the South Marion United Methodist Church, 1392-390th Street in Stratford from 9:00 a.m. to service time.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford, with Pastor Gina Spohnheimer and Pastor Dot Hasler officiating.
Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford.
Ed was born on August 18, 1943 in Boone, Iowa, the son of Norman Edward and Mary Pauline (Brehm) Nelson. Ed was second of four children. He spent his childhood in Stratford graduating in 1961.
On March 21, 1981 Ed married Karen Johnson at the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford.
He farmed south of Stratford in Marion Township. Ed bought the fiberglass business from his folks, making the outside shell of the Born Free motor home until 1986.
He was a board member of Stratford Coop. and was the county trustee. Ed was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford.
Ed enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, farming, traveling, woodworking, family and friends. Ed especially enjoyed going to Florida in the winter where he could fish, which he got to do for 4 years.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his one step great grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Nelson of Stratford, IA.; his 4 children, Treasa Ferrari (Rod) of Stratford, IA.; Daniel Nelson (Dawn) of Stratford, IA.; Kimberley Toillion of Ames. IA.; Michelle McCullough (Matt) of Walcott, IA; 13 grandchildren, three step grandchildren; 2 great grand children; 4 step great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Judy Emanuel (Peter) of Williamsburg, VA.; Marilyn Kislingbury of Boone, IA.; Kathy Miller (Larry) of Grant City, MO. and several nieces and nephews.
In memory of Ed, memorials may be given to his family, to be used at their discretion.
