Wintermote plays like vet, not rookie, in wins over Warriors, Eagles

EAGLE GROVE - So much for the notion of rookie jitters.

Freshman outside hitter Ady Wintermote was calm, cool and collected throughout her varsity debut here Tuesday night, as she helped lead the South Hamilton volleyball team to a pair of 2-0 sweeps over Prairie Valley and Eagle Grove.

The Hawks (2-0) nudged the Warriors 25-20 and 25-23, and then blasted the host Eagles 25-15 and 25-16.

Wintermote hit a combined .619 with 13 kills and didn't make an attack error in 21 attempts in the two matches. She also collected five blocks.

"That's a really great start and I did expect it. However, I didn't know how her first freshman start would be mentally," South Hamilton head coach Cindy Holmes said of Wintermote. "She was pretty much the same player as in practice and she's got more to give."

The Hawks rolled up 37 kills on the night. Tiffany Jacobson provided eight in the middle of the floor; Savana Stangeland and Molly Minich both collected six.
