Sculpture event set for this week

Public asked to select Peoples Choice Award

The "Arts R Alive in Webster City," as evidenced by the street banner spanning Superior Street and sculpture pieces that have been arriving in West Twin Park for a competition culminating this week.

Entries are expected from Ankeny, Grimes and Webster City artists. Voting for People's Choice Award will be held in the West Twin Park from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The "Artist Talk" and reception with refreshments will begin in the park at 4 p.m. on Wednesday with artists making comments about their pieces at 5:30 p.m. Children's Sculpture recognition certificates will be given out to the children participating in the city's Summer Playground sculpture-making session. The Dance Connection will showcase a dance event also on Wednesday evening.

Thursday evening David Boelter, Buena Vista University art professor will give comments about each piece and talk about the benefits of public art in communities. The People's Choice winner will also be announced. Music will be provided by Josh. Wine and cheese and soft drinks will be served.

The schedule for the two days is as follows:

Wednesday - 4 to 7 p.m. - Voting for People's Choice Award in West Twin Park; Student Recognition Certificates awarded; 5:30 pm - Artist Talk and reception; Dance Connection performance; refreshments

Thursday -10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Voting for People's Choice Award in West Twin Park; 6 pm - Judge's comments; Music; wine, cheese, soft drinks.
