Carl E. Brinkema (85) of Kamrar passed away Tuesday (07/30/13) at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames after a 6th month battle of pancreatic/liver cancer.
Visitation will be held on Saturday (08/03) from 9-11:00 am, followed by a memorial service and lunch at the Community Church of Kamrar (2351 280th Street). Pastor Peter Mueller is officiating.
Carl, the son of George and Jennie Oltoff Brinkema, was born February 2, 1928 on a farm north of Kamrar. He graduated from Kamrar High School in 1945. He served in the Korean War (1951-1952) in the 14th Combat Engineer Battalion. On June 28, 1953 he married Patricia (Pat) McCoy at the Church of Christ in Webster City. The couple resided in the town of Kamrar, where Carl worked in the painting and construction field for over 65 years.
Survivors include: his wife Pat of 60 years; sons Jeff of Kamrar; Jim of Cedar Rapids; and daughter Jennie of Kamrar. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his brother Edward James, sister Elizabeth Brinkema Badgett, and brother-in-law Paul Badgett.
Carl was a member of the Community Church, the Lions Club (worked BINGO), and the Kamrar Fire Department (29 years). He served on the Stanhope Telephone Exchange board for 12 years. He enjoyed church, visiting, taking rides around the community, watching tv, eating sweets, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his quiet sense of humor and for being a great provider. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
