JEWELL - It was a brief, routine agenda facing the South Hamilton school board when they met in regular session Monday evening.

In his report to the board, Superintendent Tim Johnson brought up student recognition for achievements from the school board. "I believe we need to recognize our kids any chance we get," he said. "If the board thinks it's not worth the trouble, we will back off." After some discussion, the board approved board recognition certificates for students.

Also discussed briefly was a five-year facilities plan.

There were several personnel matters on the agenda Monday. The resignation of preschool teacher Katie Peterson was accepted. The board approved contracts for Leah Consier, elementary special education associate, and Doug Sogard, assistant varsity volleyball coach.

In other business, board Chair Mike Grove administered the oath of office to Sue Headley, board secretary/treasurer.

Johnson and board members briefly discussed developing current vision/goals for the district for the upcoming year and agreed to take up the subject at their next meeting.

Kempton Young was appointed to serve as the board's delegate to the Iowa Association of School Board, with Marie Johnson as alternate.

Also approved on Monday were:

Teacher and support staff handbook.
