Georgia Kay (Olson) Romp, 70, of Ames, passed away July 12, 2013 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Community Church of Kamrar. Visitation is Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Burial will be at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth following a time of refreshment and fellowship after the funeral service. Memorials may be made to the Bliss Cancer Center in Ames, the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, or the Kamrar Community Church in Kamrar.
Georgia was born on July 27, 1942 in Webster City to Clarence Olson and Emma (Huisman) Olson. Georgia grew up in Ellsworth where she played high school basketball for the Ellsworth Eaglettes. She graduated as Valedictorian from South Hamilton Ellsworth in 1960. Following graduation, Georgia attended the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines and worked at Allied Mutual Insurance Company until 1963. She worked for Land O' Lakes in Ellsworth until 1983 and then cleaned houses until 2012. Georgia was a member of the Kamrar Community Church in Kamrar and the Ruth Circle. She enjoyed being part of Bible study groups, spreading the word of salvation, and she was an avid fan of ISU women's basketball.
Georgia is survived by her children, David Romp and fiance Sue Koester of Boone, Chad and wife Lori Romp of Ames; three grandchildren, Tiffany Larson of Fort Dodge, Alyssa Romp and Jacob Romp, both of Ames; three great-grandchildren, Maddison Flanagan of Phoenix, Arizona, Emma Hernandez and Zophia Crisantof, both of Fort Dodge; her mother, Emma Olson of Story City; her sister, Glenda Mathre and husband Larry of Story City; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
