STANHOPE - At their regular monthly meeting Monday evening, City Council members in Stanhope were updated on the Iowa Department of Transportation project that will go through the community next summer. Plans are for Iowa Highway 17 to be repaved in 2014.

Other items on Monday's brief agenda included approving details such as security and blocking off streets for the annual Watermelon Day on Saturday, July 20. The softball tournament will start Wednesday at 6 p.m. and conclude at an evening game to start at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Public works superintendent Tad Stupp encouraged the council to consider an assistant work on a contracted basis when needed. No action was taken by the council.
