Nearing closure on challenge

Donations given before June 15 to be matched

Webster City Community Theatre officials this week extended a "warm and heart felt thank you" to the contributors and volunteers who have brought its expansion project so close to completion. The dream of more storage, workspace, dressing rooms, and new auditorium seating is close to becoming a reality.

This project has been a huge undertaking for the organization and has had costly surprises along the way. Remaining to be completed are the lower level dressing rooms and makeup area, exterior siding, gutters and downspouts, attic air conditioning, landscaping, and parking lot. The goal is to complete the addition debt free.

Three weeks ago Loween and Doug Getter and Marjorie and Wil Groves issued a challenge to WCCT members, patrons, community supporters, and prior donors to contribute the final $20,000 needed to complete the project. For every dollar donated by June 15, the Getter/Groves challenge will match, up to $10,000.

"To date, we have generated nearly $7,500 in new donations," said Doug Getter, Chair of the Fundraising Committee. "The exterior siding and the interior fire doors have been ordered, he said."

"We decided to issue this challenge based, in part, on comments offered in scholarship applications from area high school seniors," said Loween Getter. "The addition we are completing today will provide opportunities now and for generations of theatre lovers."

For example, "Theatre has given me friendships, confidence to speak in front of large groups, and has 'kick started' my life," said one senior. Another stated, "Cast members become like one huge family and best friends. It's a great way to combine my love of music and theatre. I can be whoever I want to be on stage. I would be lost without it."

"I have gained organizational skills, interacted with a variety of personalities, made the value of volunteering evident, and I appreciate those who have been my mentors," said another. Another said, "I have learned responsibility and teamwork and it has made me a better, less self-conscious person."

This capital campaign is only the second in our 45-year history. We have succeeded in covering our annual operational and production expenses, while maintaining one of the lowest ticket prices among the members of the Iowa Community Theater Association.

"We look forward to your support and generosity to achieve the challenge campaign," said Doug Getter. "The theatre is a vital part of this community. We are grateful for your help to bring the expansion to completion."
