JEWELL - Brittany Nicholson did a little bit - or a lot - of everything for the South Hamilton softball team Monday night at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex.
There was just one problem: She didn't get much help in a 6-5, 11-inning loss to Heart of Iowa Conference rival Colfax-Mingo.
Nicholson went all 11 frames in the circle; she allowed eight hits and six walks, but matched that combined total in strikeouts with 14.
At the plate, Nicholson went 4-for-5 with three singles, a home run and three runs batted in. She drove in one run with a base knock in the third inning and then blasted a two-run bomb in the fifth.
But the rest of the South Hamilton squad went a combined 1-for-26. Kayla Lucas was the only other player to scratch out a hit.
"There were a lot of what-ifs ... a lot of girls are getting on base with walks (the Hawks collected 13), but it's frustrating that we can't seem to come up with the big hit yet," South Hamilton head coach Laura Read said.

Colfax-Mingo (3-1, 2-1 HOIC) plated the winning run in the top of the 11th following a lead-off double by Erin Earles. She raced home and slid in safely under the tag on a bunt.
