Heinlein whiffs 13, still not enough as PCM rallies by Hawks

June 3, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

PRAIRIE CITY - Lane Heinlein's quality pitching performance was spoiled by a freshman here Friday night, as South Hamilton came up empty once more against a Heart of Iowa Conference opponent.

Heinlein tossed a complete-game seven-hitter that included 13 strikeouts, but Prairie City-Monroe got an equally salty performance on the mound from rookie Austin Brown and the Mustangs scored two runs in their last at bat to prevail, 3-2.

"Lane threw incredible; a lot of strikes and everything was working," South Hamilton head coach Bret Bell said. "He did a lot of things exceptional."

But Brown was even tougher to hit. He allowed just two base hits - singles by JD Rader and Josh Doering.

"He's a pretty good pitcher for a freshman and they just played really well behind him," Bell said.

South Hamilton (2-3, 0-3 HOIC) scored its runs on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Landon Quam in the fifth and an RBI courtesy of John Hegland in the sixth.
