Texting is something I can do but don't like to do. It's easier to carry on a telephone conversation than to type a message on a tiny little keyboard. That said I know texting is the "in" way to communicate nowadays.
Texters have developed a special language for effective communication. It's a collection of abbreviations that permit quicker communication.
One of my problems with this texting language is that I'm a grammar snob and all those little texting abbreviations don't cut it. I prefer to write out the words and phrases and that takes forever on the little keyboard on my smart phone. (Maybe I'm not smart enough for a smart phone.)
Let's start with LOL. It's an overused term that means "laughing out loud." Some people add to that basic phrase and type ROFLMAO: rolling on the floor laughing my (butt) off.
Here, for your information, is a partial list of today's texting shortcuts. Some of these may have you LOL:
ADAD: another day, another dollar.
AWC: after while crocodile. (So would "later alligator" be LA?)
AYDY: are you done yet? (A phrase heard often in large families with only one bathroom.)
B2W: back to work.
BFF: best friends forever.
BFFLNMW: best friends for life, no matter what. (Sort of sounds like marriage to me.)
BPLM: big person little mind. (As a large person I'm not sure I like this one.)
CIAO: good-bye; in Italian.
CLAB: crying like a baby.
CMIIW: correct me if I'm wrong.
CUMID: see you in my dreams.
E123: easy as one, two, three.
FBF: fat boy food. e.g. pizza, burgers, fries. (I can think of a better phrase for these fine foods.)
G2CU: good to see you.
GAS: greetings and salutations. (Yeah, this one fooled me, too.)
GGP: got to go pee. (It happens to all of us.)
H2CUS: hope to see you soon.
IMHO: in my humble opinion.
MWAH: meaning "kiss;" the sound made when kissing through the air.
NALOPKT: not a lot of people know that. (Obviously.)
NIFOC: naked in front of computer. (TMI: too much information.)
NSA: no strings attached. (Seldom the case.)
NSISR: not sure if spelled right. (How would you know with this shorthand?)
OATUS: on a totally unrelated subject. (I could use this; I have trouble staying on subject.)
OI: operator indisposed. (Could this be related to GGP?)
PITA: pain in the (butt.) (I know a number of PITA people.)
PTIYPASI: put that in your pipe and smoke it.
RUMOF: are you male or female? (The answer could be critically important.)
SHID: slapping head in disgust.
SNERT: snot nosed egotistical rude teenager. (I fear I may have been one.)
SWAK: sent/sealed with a kiss. (Now there's one us old folks know.)
SWMBO: she who must be obeyed. A wife? (My ham radio buddies use XYL ex-young lady to refer to a wife.)
TNSTAAFL: there's no such thing as a free lunch. (To be learned early in life.)
UGTBK: you've got to be kidding.
UR2YS4ME: you are too wise for me. (I've never been told this.)
ZUP: meaning "what's up?
2BZ4UQT: too busy for your cutie! (That's just too busy.)
YRNBITYWY: you are now better informed than you were yesterday. (I just made that one up.)
