SH SOFTBALL, BASEBALL BRIEFS

May 27, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

HEGLAND HITS HR, SH SOFTBALL WINS: Clutch hitting from Carly Swenson and the first round tripper of Alyssa Hegland's varsity career carried the South Hamilton softball team to a second consecutive victory Friday night in Nevada.

Swenson broke up a scoreless contest with a two-run base hit to left-center in the third inning - part of a four-run frame - and the Hawks stormed by Heart of Iowa Conference rival Nevada, 6-0.

Hegland provided the icing with a lead-off solo shot in the fifth inning. South Hamilton finished with nine hits and committed just one error.

Mackenzie Busch added two base knocks for the Hawks. Tiffany Jacobson ripped an RBI double; Ella Jans had a hit and RBI, and Kayla Carlson contributed a single.

Brittany Nicholson collected one RBI and the pitching victory. She gave up five hits and three walks while striking out eight.

HAWK BASEBALL RUNS OUT OF GAS: Playing for a fourth time in as many nights on Friday, the South Hamilton baseball team had little left in the tank to fend off Nevada.
