The Northeast Hamilton School Board approved of a superintendent contract offer to Principal Larry Frakes of Keokuk High School for the 2013 to 2014 school year at a special meeting Friday.
Voting unanimously were Kim Schaa, Roxanne Anderson and Kathy Pruismann. Absent were Mike Rapp and Randy Greenfield.
If accepted, Frakes would serve as superintendent and principal for the NEH school district beginning July 1. The term of the contract is one year with an option to renew.
The search for a new superintendent/principal was necessary with the resignation of Supt. Patrick Hocking, who is leaving after 19 years with the district to serve as superintendent at the Lisbon, Iowa schools.
Frakes, a native of Belmond, Iowa, and a graduate from Goldfield High School, has served as principal at Keokuk High School principal since 2010. Prior to that he served as superintendent at Belmond-Klemme from 2007 to 2010 where he also taught.
Frakes has served as Anita High School Principal from 2002 to 2005. He was the activities director for grades 7 through 12 at Clarion-Goldfield from 1993 to 2002.
From 1987 to 1992, Frakes taught middle school science, physical education and health at Galva-Holstein.
He also taught high school science and physical education at Woden-Crystal Lake from 1985 to 1987.
Frakes obtained his BA degree in physical education and science from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. He received a Masters in administration and an education specialist degree from Drake University in Des Moines.
