CLARION - Down 4-1 after four innings, the South Hamilton baseball team put on its rally cap and picked up its second victory in as many nights here last night.
Lane Heinlein's two-strike, two-out bloop single over first base brought Devin Howard around from second with the winning run in the top of the seventh, as the Hawks stole one from non-conference opponent Clarion-Goldfield, 5-4.
"I was really proud of the guys," South Hamilton head coach Bret Bell said. "We fought real hard and showed a lot of heart."
John Hegland slammed the door on the Cowboys (1-2) in the bottom of the seventh, as he fanned three batters to end the game. Hegland tossed three innings of one-hit ball and fanned six to secure the win.
"John came in and threw absolutely amazing," Bell said. "He's the kind of guy you want in there in a tight situation. He gets it done and he's very mentally tough."
South Hamilton (2-1) tied the game at 4 in the sixth on an RBI single by Nathan McSparin. Lucas Olson also drove in a run in the frame.
