Friday is Poppy Day in Webster City. Above, Pat Nokes, Nadine Cordes and Bettye Moberly look on as Mayor Janet Adams signs an official proclamation recognizing the day. The American Legion Auxiliary has sponsored Poppy Days for more than 70 years. The small flowers are made by veterans in Auxiliary sponsored Poppy Shops which supplement physical and psychological therapy for disabled and hospitalized veterans. The veterans are paid a small amount for each flower. Money collected goes to help veterans and their families. The memorial poppy is never sold, but given in exchange for a contribution. The Auxiliary members will be accepting donations at Kmart, Hy-Vee and Fareway on Friday.
