POCAHONTAS - Maggie Peters picked the perfect time to play the best golf of her life.
And now she'll get to showcase it in front of the state.
Peters, a South Hamilton senior, continued her torrid postseason run yesterday by placing fourth at the Class 2A Region 1 final at Pocahontas Golf Club. Her round of 86 moved her to next week's state meet at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
"I'm very happy for Maggie," South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. "Of all the times to start peaking, this is the time that you want to be at your best and she was."
The top two teams and top five individuals all advanced to state. Alta-Aurelia (354) and Emmetsburg (387) grabbed the top team slots.
Alex Mankle of Okoboji fired a 77 to easily win the medalist honor. Kelsie Snyder (85) of Alta-Aurelia and teammate Lexie Patton (86) were second and third.
Peters finished behind Patton on a cardback.
Fisher said the key to Peters' round was her demeanor.
"Maggie's personality is very well suited for golf because she doesn't get too high or too low," Fisher said. "She's very confident and calm and that helped her out there."
