BOONE - The Webster City girls' soccer team was unable to hold onto an early lead in the sweltering heat here Tuesday evening.
Trailing 1-0, Boone scored right before the half and then again 11 minutes into the second half to rally for a 2-1 victory over the Lynx (2-10), who dropped their fourth straight match.
"The girls played extremely hard in horribly hot conditions, but we made two crucial mistakes that cost us the (match)," WCHS head coach Greg Bock said.
Ashton Summerhays scored the first goal for Boone (3-7) when her shot slipped under the arms of Lynx goalkeeper Molly Gilbert.
The Toreadors jumped in front to stay off a corner kick that Mallory Erb sent to the back of the net.
"Letting the easy goal in at the end of the first half hurt, and then we didn't mark up well on the corner kick," Bock said.
Brenna Paukert collected her team-high fifth goal 22 minutes into the match off a free kick for the Lynx. She rifled the ball home into the brisk wind.
Boone held a 14-8 shots on goal advantage. Gilbert finished with 12 saves.
WCHS will be on the pitch in Maxwell on Thursday against CMB at 6 p.m.
