May 6, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

STRATFORD - Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will be celebrating National Nursing Home Week May 12 to 19 with a variety of special events.

National Nursing Home Week which is observed in skilled nursing facilities throughout the United States begins on Mother's Day, May 12 and continues through May 18.

The theme for National Nursing Home Week this year is "Team Care" which recognizes residents in long term and post-acute care settings, the dedicated staff who care for them, and the value of care planning where everyone "pitches in" for optimal outcomes. The observance is an opportunity to involve families, community members, youth, and others in a community-wide show of support and respect for these individuals and the staff who provide care or support services. Activities are designed to foster intergenerational contact, strengthen family relationships and to encourage volunteerism by individuals and local organizations.

A variety of special events are planned for this week at SNRC including;

Mothers Day Sunday: honoring all the mothers and ladies of SNRC

May 13: Red White and Blue Day where residents and staff are encouraged to wear red white and blue clothing. The day will begin with a waffle breakfast with strawberry, blueberry and whipped cream toppings.

May 14 at 5 p.m., a resident, family and staff social with hamburgers and hot dogs fresh off the grill.

May 15: Support your favorite team day. Staff and residents will be encouraged to wear their favorite sports attire.

May 16: Pajamas and Pizza Day

May 17: Crazy hair and clothing day. SNRC's director of nursing plans on going all out with colorful and crazy hair and clothing.
