BOONE - It was big-picture time for Nick Thilges, Eric Coleman, Jacob Clabaugh and Ethan Glenn here last night.
The four didn't bring home the 4x800-meter relay gold medal from the Boone Invitational, but the group of Webster City seniors made a statewide splash by running one of the four fastest times in Class 3A this season.
"All four guys set new seasons' bests," WCHS head coach Tony Bussan said after the group put up a time of 8:12.80 to finish behind only Boone, which now sits third in the class.
Thilges got the Lynx off to a strong start with a 2:02 opening split, and Glenn ran a 1:58 split on the anchor.
WCHS racked up nine top-three places en route to 82 points and a fourth-place result in the team standings. Fort Dodge St. Edmond (102), Boone (100) and Nevada (96) finished in the top three spots.
"We continue to show improvement," Bussan said. "We had a very good night."
1. Fort Dodge St. Edmond 102; 2. Boone 100; 3. Nevada 96; 4. Webster City 82; 5. Johnston 40.
