GIRLS TENNIS: Slow start in singles puts Lynx girls in hole, Lions stroll on to sweep

April 17, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

CLEAR LAKE - Subtract Cambria Hoffmann from the equation and the rest of the Webster City girls' tennis team was simply a step or two slow here last night.

Hoffmann put up a worthy challenge in singles, but Clear Lake controlled the other eight matches and cruised to a 9-0 dual-meet victory.

"They're pretty good and we probably could have stayed on the bus," WCHS head coach Heather Kierzek said. "It would be nice to just have a nice night to play sometime, but they had to play in the same stuff that we did."

Hoffmann pushed Jenna Peterson to the wire in the No. 1 singles match before the Lions' top player was able to prevail 10-8 in a match that Kierzek estimated lasted 90 minutes.

"Cambria played phenomenal," Kierzek said. "That's the best I've ever seen her play, so a lot of credit goes to her."

No other Lynx singles player scratched out more than three games in the pro-set format.
