The Asbury United Methodist Church Educational Building, in Webster City was rocking with activity on April 6, as 50 Hamilton County 4-H'ers competed for top honors to represent Hamilton County at the 2013 Iowa State Fair and the 2013 Clay County Fair.
The Working Exhibits were judged by Katie Tapper and Kathy Bailey from Ames and Shanna Higgins from Ankeny. They selected the following 4-H'ers to represent Hamilton County at the Iowa State Fair with Working Exhibits: Shea Hassebrock, MaKayla Cavan and Janae Stoecker, Clear Lake Sailors, "Monarch and Math"; Gabbi Struchen and Madison Klocke, Clear Lake Sailors doing "Sugar Shockers", Heath and Isaac Patterson and Janson Bergman, Stratford Spirit, "I Spy 4-H Fun" and Cameron and McKenna Mitchell, Freedom Flickers and Warriors, creating "Creative Pockets." The alternate in working exhibits for the Iowa State Fair was awarded to Harlie Steinlicht, Stratford Spirit doing "4-H Apple Clovers."
Purple recognition was give to Emma Collicot, Stratford Spirit, encouraging everyone to create "Bead Bracelets" and Jessica and Jillian Woodall, Clear Lake Sailors presenting "Ice Cream in a Bag." Blue ribbons were presented to the following: Lexie Schwerin, Lyon Kings, "cute as a Button"; Jessica and Tyler Carlson, Stratford Spirit, "Paper Doves"; Grace Hoffman, Boone Boosters, "Button Bookmarks"; Ashley Dilley and Dakota Vaughn, Boone Boosters, "Sting Ray's"; Tannah Schroeder and Hannah Myers, Lyon Kings, "Have You Any Wool?'; Parker & Trower McIntosh, Stratford Spirit, "Foam Circle Decorations" and Madisyn Steinlicht, Stratford Spirit, "Butterfly Treat Bags."
Hamilton County 4-H County Communications working exhibit presenters selected for the Iowa State Fair and Clay County Fair were Gemma Borer, Isaac Patterson, Heath Patterson, Janson Bergman, Harlie Steinlicht, Madison Klocke, Gabbi Struchen, Janae Stoecker, SheaHassebrock, Cameron and McKenna Mitchell.
The 4-H County Communications educational presenters selected for the Iowa State Fair and Clay County Fair include Maren Borer, Abby Ervin, Anna Ervin and John Maubach in extemporaneous speaking.
Madison Klocke and Gabbi Struchen presented “Sugar Shockers,” a working presentation at the County Communications competition April 6.
Haley Cavan and Elly Hassebrock were selected as Hamilton County's Clay County Fair working exhibit entry, with "Scratch CD's." Gemma Borer was selected as the alternate working exhibit entitled "Duct Tape Creations.
The Educational Presentations were judged by Ashley Kinkade and Katie Tapper, Ames. Blue Ribbon Awards were presented to Ashley Dilley, Boone Boosters on "Mock Trial"; Gianna Borer, Boone Boosters, "Endangered Species of the Everglades;" Brooklyn George, Lyon Kings, "Basketball;" Daniel Blankenship, Boone Boosters, "Snowball Cookies;" Lexie Schwerin, Lyon Kings, "In the Mail;" Katie Greenfield, Boone Boosters, "Theater;" and Nathan Schmitz, Lyon Kings, "Morning Smoothies."
4-H'ers selected to go on to the Iowa State Fair are: Mara Borer, Boone Boosters on "Home Schooling" and Anna Ervin, Clear Lake Sailors presenting "Table Settings & Etiquette." County Council member Nick Schmitz was the host for the Educational Presentation Room.
Hamilton County will be represented at the Iowa State Fair in the Extemporaneous Speaking division. The Senior 4-H'ers representing us will be John Maubach, Freedom Warriors, and Mara Borer, Boone Boosters.
Hamilton County's Clay County Fair selection will be Abby Ervin, Clear Lake Sailors, "Ice Cream."
