BOYS GOLF: Haugland, Ullestad shoot 39s, Hawks 3rd at B-F Invite

HOIC rival PCM claims team title, Pella the runner-up

ALTOONA - Four players were separated by just two shots for the South Hamilton boys' golf team in its season-opening meet at Terrace Hills Golf Course yesterday.

The Hawks posted a 160 on the par-35 front nine to finish in third place behind tournament-champion Prairie City-Monroe (147) and runner-up Pella (153). Des Moines Christian also shot a 160, but South Hamilton was awarded third on the strength of No. 5 golfer Jordan Bower's 42.

"I wasn't surprised we got third because Pella and PCM are pretty good clubs this year, but 160 is higher than what we shot at this tournament last year," South Hamilton head coach Mark Ullestad said.

Jacob Haugland and Trevor Ullestad fired matching 39s, while Braxton Risetter and Jordan Toillion both turned in 41s.

"I was really happy to see Jake play well," Mark Ullestad said.

Trevor Ullestad and Risetter - the team's leaders a year ago when the Hawks placed fourth at the Class 2A state tournament - had trouble at the par-3 eighth hole. Both dunked their tee shots in the pond in front of the green; Ullestad took a double-bogey 5, Risetter a quadruple-bogey 7.
