Hamilton County Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) will gather April 4 at the Stratford Fire Station located at 630 Hwy 175 in Stratford, Iowa.
Free blood pressure checks will be offered from 9 to 9:30 a.m. The S.A.L.T. meeting will then begin with treats and upcoming local events from each Hamilton County community. The program will cover weather preparedness and emergency kits.
According to the National Weather Service, tornadoes occur most frequently between April and June, however tornadoes have occurred in every month. The tornado that touched down in the Stratford area November 12, 2005 is one example of that. "Emergency preparedness will be highlighted and topics will range from what should be included in emergency kits to making arrangements for pets during an emergency." says Susan Schmitz, ISU Extension and Outreach, Hamilton County Program Coordinator.
Being prepared in advance by having an emergency plan and weather preparedness is one way to protect yourself.
All S.A.L.T. meetings are free of charge and open to any interested citizen. No reservations are required to attend. For additional information, please contact Susan Schmitz, ISU Extension and Outreach, Hamilton County, at 832-9597.
