Kiwanis donate to meal program

March 21, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

The Main Street Morning Kiwanis Club, with the help of community volunteers, normally package between 30,000 and 40,000 Kids Against Hunger meals each year at a cost of approximately 25 cents per meal. Recently, club president Zona Graves presented a $9,000 check to Floyd and Kathy Hammer from Outreach International. The check will be enough to cover the packaging of 36,000 meals for the current year.

Any organization or group interested in packaging meals should contact Tom McLaughlin at 832-3798. Anyone interested in helping finance this program can make checks payable to Kids Against Hunger at P.O. Box 357 in Webster City or by making a donation at Webster City Federal Bank where an account is set up for this program.

Three packagings have already been completed this year with 8640 meals packaged. Meals packaged by our local community members have found their way to Africa, Haiti, Jamaica, the Hurricane Katrina and Sandy areas, as well as our local UDMO pantry and school backpack program.
