Marval Anson Melling, 87, of Fort Dodge, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the First Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Scott Hatton officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 PM Thursday at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Kamrar, Iowa with full military honors conducted by the American Legion of Story City and the United States Navy Funeral Honors. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Marv is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Marilyn (Jim) Gallery, Bennett (Susan) Melling, Jerry (Susie) Larson, Curt (Kim) Larson, Alan (Kelly) Larson and Annette (Paul) Pulford; five grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and 11 step great-grandchildren.
Marval Anson Melling, the son of Ben and Gertie (Smith) Melling, was born April 24, 1925 in Hamilton County, Iowa. He graduated from Kamrar High School and also attended Dubuque University. During WWII, Marv was a Signalman in the United States Navy. On December of 1946, he married Muriel Thompson and she died in December of 1996. Marv later married Joanne Sanford Larson on May 15, 1999. Marv was the bookkeeper and manager of the Kamrar Cooperative Elevator; he also managed the Badger and Story City Iowa Coops. Marv was also the manager of the NEW Coop Badger Location and farmed in the Kamrar area. Marv was a member of the Sons of Norway, VFW, and the First Evangelical Free Church in Fort Dodge. He enjoyed services at the First Evangelical Free Church and his Sunday School classes.
