At the regular Jewell city council meeting on Feb. 11, councilmen addressed a variety of agenda items, including upper level Main Street residency.
Councilman Bruce Johnson made a motion to proceed with changes to the zoning ordinance to allow upper story residency on Main Street, which was seconded. The motion passed, with Leo Reiter voting no and Fred Marcalus abstaining. A public hearing on the change in the ordinance will be March 11, at 7:45 p.m.
City maintenance superintendent Bernie Bell reported to the council that W & G Marketing has been dumping grease into the sewer line, clogging their sewer as well as the sewer owned by the city. Bell will check into their operations and the options that are available to the city. The city sewer lines will be cleaned, with the charge going to W & G Marketing.
A visitor at the meeting was Tom Salor of Alliant Energy. He discussed changes to streets. Alliant will be replacing burned-out lights with new LED lights.
In development issues, the council reviewed a set of covenants from Webster City and plans to look at them further at their next meeting
The council set a public hearing to approve the operating budget for 2013/14, to be held on Monday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.
