Bushy Creek Area Honor Flight is announcing another honor flight. This flight will target the remaining World War II veterans who could not go on one of the previous honor flights and will include Korean War veterans. Korean War veterans must have had one day of active duty between June 1, 1950 and Jan. 31, 1955.
Participating honor flight veterans will leave Fort Dodge Regional Airport on a date to be announced and fly to Dulles airport in Virginia and be transported to Washington D.C. To visit their memorials. These memorials will include the World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and Lincoln memorials. Following a visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to witness the changing of the guard, the veterans will be transported to the Iowa Jima Memorial. The veterans will then leave Dulles airport to arrive back home in Fort Dodge later that evening.
All World War II and Korean War veterans will fly free and must be accompanied by a guardian who must pay for that experience. Each flight approximates $100,000 and organizers will announce the exact date of the flight when donations approach that figure.
Bushy Creek Area Honor Flight is a 501c(3) corporation and is seeking donations for this upcoming flight. Donations are deductible and are greatly appreciated. Donations can be made payable to Bushy Creek Area Honor Flight and mailed to 320 South 12th Street, Fort Dodge, Iowa 50501.
Applications for both the veterans and guardians may be acquired from any participating Veterans Affairs office in-person or by download or from any board member or by calling 576-0671. All qualifying veterans will be chosen for this flight on a first come first serve basis.
