Fisher has career night, not enough for SH girls against Roland-Story

The Daily Freeman Journal

STORY CITY - Within two possessions in the fourth quarter, the South Hamilton girls' basketball team was in the position it wanted to be in here Friday night.

But Roland-Story made its free throws down the stretch and pulled away from the Hawks for a 50-37 Heart of Iowa Conference victory.

"I'm proud of our whole team because we wanted to make sure we were there competing in the fourth quarter and we were," South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. "But their free throws were the difference."

Roland-Story (10-9, 10-7 HOIC) shot 12 more free throws than the Hawks (22-10) and held a 11-point scoring advantage (17-6) at the stripe.

Kaitlin Fisher turned in the best performance of her career to keep South Hamilton (3-18, 2-16) competitive. The guard buried a pair of 3-pointers and scored 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and three steals before she fouled out late.

"I think she just played relaxed and she played with confidence," Kathi Fisher said of her daughter. "She played well at the defensive end and that gave her confidence at the offensive end."
