Norsemen drain 10 3s, hand Hawks HOIC loss

Ullestad, Olson and Hislop reach double figures for SH boys

The Daily Freeman Journal

STORY CITY - Four 3-point baskets in the first quarter was just a sign of things to come for the Roland-Story boys' basketball team here Friday night in a wire-to-wire victory over Heart of Iowa Conference rival South Hamilton.

The early bombs helped the Norsemen build a 22-12 lead after 8 minutes and they never relented in a 63-52 win, which avenged a 49-48 loss to the Hawks earlier this month.

Ryan Skaar was the biggest South Hamilton tormenter; he buried four of Roland-Story's 10 3s - the Norsemen had just nine field goals inside the arc - and scored a game-high 26 points. Zach Hovick buried three triples en route to 14 points.

The Norsemen (11-8, 9-8 HOIC) led by 17 points, 49-32, after three quarters. South Hamilton (12-8, 11-6 HOIC) made an amicable fourth quarter run to claw to within 11.

Point guard Trevor Ullestad paced the Hawks with 12 points. Lucas Olson contributed 11 and Matt Hislop pitched in 10. The three backcourt players combined to make all six of South Hamilton's 3s.

John Hegland was limited to nine points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
