Hawk girls split weekend games with Tigerhawks, Norse

COLFAX - Mattea Detrick supplied the dagger with two fourth-quarter 3-pointers, as the senior point guard elevated the South Hamilton girls' basketball team to a 46-36 victory over Colfax-Mingo here on Friday.

Detrick popped off for a team-high 14 points, and the two 3s gave the Hawks a needed cushion late in the game.

"Mattea gave us some breathing room," South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. "I was very proud of how the girls stayed mentally tough."

The two teams were whistled for a combined 50 fouls and they shot 64 free throws. South Hamilton connected on just 6 of 24 from the line.

Colfax-Mingo (2-14, 2-13 HOIC) received 25 points from Nicolette Husson. She went 13 of 18 at the charity stripe.

Hawks drop clash with R-S

JEWELL - Roland-Story blanked South Hamilton 8-0 in the third quarter here Saturday evening to turn a two-point halftime lead into an insurmountable 10-point cushion in its 38-24 Heart of Iowa Conference victory.

Rudy was the only player to score in double figures for the Hawks (3-13, 2-12 HOIC), as she finished with 11 points. Detrick chipped in seven.

Kaitlin Fisher contributed two points, four steals and three assists.

Natalie Vance (11) and Nicole Tryon (10) scored in double figures for the Norse (7-9, 7-7 HOIC).

SH boys rip Colfax-Mingo by 17, hang on to beat Roland-Story

COLFAX - Thank you third quarter.

Clinging to a 28-23 lead at the intermission, the South Hamilton boys' basketball team tightened the belt defensively and lit it up offensively in the third period, as the Hawks outscored Colfax-Mingo 23-7 during that 8-minute span to pull away in their 67-50 Heart of Iowa Conference victory on Friday.

Matt Hislop canned half of the Hawks' 10 3-point baskets and scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half. Trevor Ullestad cashed in on four triples and netted 12, and John Hegland also reached double figures with 19.

Vaughn Wilson led the Tigerhawks (3-12, 3-12 HOIC) with 16 points, two more than teammate Bryon Johnson.

Hawks hold off Norse

JEWELL - Ahead 41-33 with 4 minutes remaining, South Hamilton was forced to hold on for dear life in a 49-48 win over HOIC rival Roland-Story here on Saturday.

The Norsemen (9-6, 7-6 HOIC) had a shot at the buzzer to win, but Ryan Skaar's 3-point shot rimmed out.

Hegland went off for all 19 of his points in the second half, and Lucas Olson poured in nine points on three 3-pointers, the last of which just beat the halftime horn to give South Hamilton (9-6, 9-4 HOIC) a 16-15 lead. Ullestad chipped in eight points.

Skaar and Zach Hovick both finished with 14 points for the Norsemen.

Seiser scores 17, Ronnfeldt 16 in Trojans' 49-30 rout of Indians

BLAIRSBURG - The Northeast Hamilton boys' basketball team led wire-to-wire and closed out an unbeaten week here Friday night.

Following a win over CAL on Tuesday that snapped a six-game slide, the Trojans took care of Clarksville, 49-30, in Iowa Star Conference play.

"(The week) was what we needed and hopefully we got a little confidence," NEH head coach John Seiser said.

The Trojans raced out to a 17-6 lead after one quarter and they had the Indians (1-15, 1-11 ISC) doubled up by the half, 30-15.

Logan Seiser and Noah Ronnfeldt did the majority of the damage with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Seiser's double-double outing included 14 rebounds, and Ronnfeldt grabbed nine.

Stephan Chamness added four points and eight boards. Gabe Rapp rained in three 3-point baskets for nine points.

Clarksville was led by Weston Gray with 16 points.

NEH will travel to Janesville on Tuesday.

Indians reel off 9-1 fourth-quarter run, beat Trojets, 39-25

BLAIRSBURG - The Northeast Hamilton girls' basketball team ran out of gas in the fourth quarter here Friday night and Clarksville was able to escape out of pressure in Iowa Star Conference play.

The Indians (13-2, 10-2 ISC) - one of the league's top squads - led by just six, 30-24, with 8 minutes left, but then outscored the Trojets (4-11, 3-9 ISC) 9-1 down the stretch.

"I thought we played really well against a very good team, but we just got tired," NEH head coach Bret Schutt said.

Clarksville connected on 5 of 6 free throws in the final period to pull away.

Hannah Poppe led the visitors and all scorers with 20 points.

Molly Greenfield produced a double-double - 10 points and 10 rebounds - for NEH, and Sarah Elm contributed eight points.
