In preparation for the Festival of Chocolate at the Kendall Young Library, the Friends of the Library are seeking more entries before the Friday deadline to sign up.
Library director Angie Martin-Schwarze said the event has about 10 entries so far. They include mint oreo cookies, chocolate cake balls, raspberry white chocolate bars, fudge, chocolate dipped pretzels, toffee, brownies and more.
"Entries are coming in, and we'd like to have more," said Ketta Lubberstedt-Arjes, Kendall Young Library reference librarian.
Specifically, the library is looking for more entries of cookies, cakes and cupcakes. Other categories of entries include brownies, bars and assorted confections and candies. Judges will award cash prizes to the top entries in each category. A people's choice award will also be selected by vote. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m.
Martin-Schwarze said the festival, which will be held Jan. 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the library, was inspired by similar events.
"We've heard about other places doing it and it seemed like a fun community event that will bring people back to the library," Martin-Schwarze said.
Chamber music at the festival will be provided by Melissa Borer and her daughters. The cost to get in is $4 for members of Friends of the Library, $5 for non-members and $2 for kids age 10 and under. Tickets and Friends memberships will be available at the door. Entrance fees that go to the Friends of the Library will be used to fun new materials and programs at the library.
Entry forms with further rules and regulations may be picked up at the library. Participants may submit more than one entry. For more information, contact the library at 832-9100.
