JEWELL - It took Lucas Olson more than 35 minutes to finally find the bottom of the net here Friday night, but maybe stealing the spotlight was his plan all along.
With the game on the line, Olson rained in a pair of 3-pointers during the final minute of overtime to propel South Hamilton to a thrilling and hard-fought 67-65 victory over Heart of Iowa Conference rival North Polk.
Olson's first triple gave the Hawks (6-3, 6-2 HOIC) a 64-63 lead with 45 seconds remaining in the extra session. After North Polk (6-4, 5-4 HOIC) jumped back ahead on a Hunter Brunsvold bucket, Olson again dialed it up from long distance, this time with only 19 ticks to go, to give South Hamilton the two-point edge it needed to prevail.

South Hamilton center Andrew Wintermote (44) floats up a jumper from the lane over North Polk’s Hunter Brunsvold during Friday’s game in Jewell. Wintermote scored five points in the Hawks’ 67-65 overtime victory.
"Lucas hit some very big shots, there's no question about it," South Hamilton head coach B.J. Terrones said.
South Hamilton appeared to have the game well in hand with a 53-36 lead after three quarters. But North Polk rallied with a 23-8 spurt over the final 8 minutes of regulation to force overtime.
"We almost let one slip through our fingers," Terrones said. "There were some times where I did see a few heads go down towards the ground, but in overtime (the players) were able to stick with it and finish it out."
