WC ice rink to open Saturday

Volunteers sought to staff the shelter on weeknights

The Carl Rhoer Ice Skating Rink at Nokomis Park, North Des Moines Street, will officially open on Saturday.

On Saturdays and Sundays, the shelter will be open are from 1 to 6 p.m. There is no cost to use both the rink or to borrow ice skates available in the shelter.

Officials with the Webster City Recreation and Public Grounds Department said weeknight hours will be announced depending on the number of persons who volunteer to supervise the rink and shelter. Currently, there are no volunteers to staff the warming shelter Monday through Friday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Those interested in volunteering are asked to

Those interesting in helping to staff the warming house during the week are asked contact Kent Harfst at Fuller Hall. With weather conditions changing on a daily basis, call Fuller Hall at 832-9193 to make sure the skating rink is open.

City officials also thanked Jim Mitchell for volunteering to make the ice.
