Little Zander Lee Hansen was the first baby to be born at Van Diest Medical Center in 2013. Pictured above with his mom and dad, Courtney Short and Cody Hansen, Webster City, Zander made his appearance at 10:51 p.m. Jan. 1. He weighted 7 pounds, 1.3 ounces and was 21 inches in length. Grandparents are Chantel Short, Kamrar, William Short, Webster City; Kathy Nicholson of Rudd and Dave and Tammy Hansen of Alden. Joh Draper of California and Marlene Skogerboe of Minnesota are the great-grandparents. As the first baby born in 2013, Zander and his parents received several gifts to mark the occasion, including a dozen roses from Flower Cart; $100 from the Hamilton County Public Hospital Foundation; $25 in Webster City Bucks and a stuffed bear from First State Bank; a quilt by the “Quilting Friends;” a T-shirt from the Hospital Auxiliary, a scrapbook from the Family Birth Place and a baby spoon from the hospital dietary department.
