Tourism grants now available

Funds to be used for facility improvements or advertising

December 20, 2012
The Daily Freeman Journal

The Hamilton County Supervisors announced Wednesday that grants for Hamilton County destinations, attractions and tourism-related businesses are available.

According to S.E.E.D. Director Catherine Bergman, "These grants have served as a catalyst for many projects in Hamilton County for the last eight years. The economic impact is demonstrated in statistics collected by the Iowa Division of Tourism."

Bergman said the overall intent is to bring more visitors to Hamilton County. Projects need to benefit our destinations, attractions and hotel-owners by increasing revenue.

Grants will be made in two categories: advertising and physical improvement. Advertising projects could include brochure printing, web site development, or advertising in newspaper, magazine, radio and television. Projects under the physical improvement category could be acquisition, restoration, signs or other ways to make the attraction more exciting. The advertising category has a maximum award of $500, and the physical improvement maximum of $1,000. Applicants are required to match the grants dollar for dollar.

Applications can be downloaded from the SEED web site at: www.develop.hamiltoncountiowa.com. All inquiries pertaining to the hotel-motel tax grant application opportunities should be directed to:
