Trojans ice cold shooting; split contests with Tripoli, CWL

December 10, 2012
The Daily Freeman Journal

Execution, attention to detail, effort and defense - they were all good for the Northeast Hamilton boys' basketball team in two games over the weekend.

The simple concept of putting the ball in the basket was the problem.

The Trojans shot just 23 percent from the field in a 42-26 road loss to Tripoli in Iowa Star Conference play on Friday, and one night later head coach John Seiser's squad had similar issues, albeit in a road victory, 39-27, over non-conference opponent CWL.

"We're getting good looks - the guys aren't taking terrible shots - but absolutely nothing is falling right now," Seiser said. "On most nights if we hold Tripoli to 42 points we're happy with that, so we're playing good defense and the kids are doing the right things, but we can't put the ball in the hole."

Tripoli (3-1, 3-1 ISC) led by 20 points, 36-16, after three quarters. Nick Shinstine scored 17 points for the Panthers and Austin Newbrough had 11.

Logan Seiser led NEH (3-2, 2-2 ISC) with nine points and 11 rebounds. Noah Ronnfeldt chipped in eight points, Stephen Chamness had seven and Trevor Klaver finished with six.
