The Webster City Hotel Motel Tax board met on Thursday in the City Council chambers to discuss what grants they would recommend to the City Council when it meets on Jan. 7. They are recommending five of the six grant proposals that were presented to the board on Tuesday.

The board is recommending grants be given to Wilson Brewer Historic Park, Webster City Women's Club, Webster City Community Theatre, the City of Webster City and the Art in Boone River Country sub committee of the PRIDE committee.

The only grant request that the committee will not recommend to the City Council was from Webster City Bowl. The board said they did not want to set the precedent of granting tax monies to a business where direct personal gain could be had.

Wilson Brewer Historic Park is requesting $12,181.06 for several things, including keeping their longer hours of operation, new monthly events that would showcase the park and several holiday events.

Webster City Women's Club is requesting $3,931.17 to add a handicap ramp to the Jane Young House. The grant proposal said the group would build the ramp in accordance to state and Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

The Webster City Community Theatre is requesting $6,904 to fund advertising for their shows and to host Camp Creamery, a week long summer theater workshop.

The City of Webster City is requesting $8,000 for a new website to be built. Kirby L. Winter said at the Tuesday meeting that the current website was designed in 2003.

The art in Boone River county sub committee is requesting $6,400 to continue and expand the sculpture event in Webster City and to host a children's sculpture workshop.
