ALGONA - The gradual process of finding its place in the North Central Conference began for the Webster City girls' basketball team here Tuesday night, and while the outcome wasn't what head coach Nicole Muhlenbruch envisioned, she remained upbeat after the second outing of the season.

A strong first half at the defensive end still couldn't offset a sluggish offensive game, and in the second half Algona found its footing with its shots and rolled to a 46-19 victory over the Lynx.

WCHS (0-2, 0-1 NCC) limited the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 NCC) to just 15 first-half points, yet still found itself trailing by nine. Algona went on a 15-4 third-quarter run to extend its lead to 30-10.

"It's one step at a time," Muhlenbruch, the Lynx first-year head coach, said. "Each time we work on something in practice the girls are carrying it over to the game, but there's a lot to work on.

"When you hold a team to 15 points (in a half), you feel pretty good about it, but now we just need to score more."

In a season-opening loss to Boone, the Lynx had fits beating a full-court press. But on Tuesday, Muhlenbruch's team didn't struggle getting the ball up the floor. Still, there were issues in the half-court set.
