Supports rural hotel/motel tax renewal

November 5, 2012
The Daily Freeman Journal

To the Editor:

As a representative of the Hamilton County Conservation Board, I am expressing my support for the upcoming vote to continue the rural hotel/motel tax in Hamilton County.

Hamilton County Conservation is responsible for producing one third of the entire local economic impact dollars generated in Hamilton County from visitors and guests. Hamilton County Conservation has benefited by applying for and receiving grants using hotel/motel tax dollars for various tourism based projects. These projects include area entrance signs into our county parks, brochures that are widely distributed throughout the state of Iowa along with marketing and advertising publications. By utilizing these available grants we are saving local taxpayers' dollars.

This tax is not new and does not affect your taxes, it benefits the way we can continue to promote all of Hamilton County and the wonderful communities we have. Please vote yes in support for the continuation of the rural hotel/motel tax in Hamilton County.
