Veterans Day services set for Nov. 8 in Webster City

Legion members to share their military experiences with students at the middle school

The Daily Freeman Journal

Webster City Veterans Day services will be held Nov. 8, according to American Legion Post 191 Commander Doug Johnson,

The change in date is due to the fact that Veterans Day, traditionally observed on Nov. 11, falls on a Sunday this year.

The observance will begin at approximately 10:40 a.m. as Legionnaires gather at the Boulevard of Valor on South Des Moines St.

The Rev. Mike Willer of Faith United Methodist Church will be the guest speaker. He is an Iowa Army National Guard chaplain who served a year in Afghanistan.

The ceremony will begin with a welcome from Johnson and then Willer will lead the opening prayer. After his speech, a 21-gun salute will be fired by the Post 191 firing squad. Taps will be played and the city sirens will sound for one minute. Johnson said a prayer would conclude the cerermony.

In morning and afternoon sessions that day, Legion members will share about their military experiences with 8th graders at the middle school.

Post 191 will conclude the day with an oyster stew, chili and bean soup supper for members, guests and veterans beginning at 5 p.m.

NEH observance

Northeast Hamilton CSD will hold its Veterans Day observance on Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

District patrons are invited to attend a complimentary lunch in the school cafeteria from noon to 1 p.m. with the program to follow.
