Webster City merchants are busy getting ready for one of the biggest promotions of the year - Ladies Night Out.

The event will be held today from noon until 9 p.m. with 16 local businesses participating. Ladies Night Out is sponsored by the Webster City Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber officials said that the promotion attracts women from all over the state. Businesses taking part said the Ladies Night Out gives them a change to offer special demonstrations, product discounts and a chance to showcase unique and distinctive products and services.

"It's such a fun event. I love it," said Sarah Kopriva, owner of R Company, a consignment business.

Kopriva has some specials ready for the Ladies Night Out shoppers. Her store will have a Bag of Bling - a grab bag of at least five pieces of jewelry. She also has a new display of scarves, a fashion trend that continues to be popular.

"Actually, right now, this R Company's best season," she said. "We're full and we have the brands and great quality from our consigners."

"It's always a good time and we hope shoppers will come out and see what we have to offer," she said.

Right next door, to R Company is Shanti Wellness Day Spa. Mary Fortune said her business will be offering demonstrations of some of the services offered.

"At 5:30 p.m., we're doing a demonstration of a laser hair growth system, and at 7 p.m. we'll have a demonstration on micro-current or the lunch-time face lift," Fortune said.

"We look forward to this every year. It's the biggest retail event we have all year," she said. "It's definitely a fun night and we usually between 300 and 400 ladies stop by," she said.

Other participants include Osweilers, Classic Carpet and Interiors, Gilbert Jewelers, Heart-n-Home, Stony Creek Landscapes, Gingerbread House, Ted's Car Wash, Pampered Chef-Cindi Sweedler, Mornin Glory, Whoop-ti-Doos & La-ti-Daas, Second Street Emporium, Grid Iron Family Grill and Sports Lounge, Gilbert Flooring and Paint and Carolyn's Hallmark. No matter where they begin their shopping spree, those visiting businesses can pick up a Ladies Night Out Passport. Each participating business the shoppers visit will stamp the passport. Those turning in completed passports will have a chance to win $50 in Webster City bucks. Chamber officials said those dining at participating restaurants can have their passports stamped for a chance to win $50 in Webster City bucks.

For every $20 spent in participating businesses, shoppers will have a chance in the drawing for $100 in Webster City bucks.
