STANHOPE - The Stanhope City Council opened sealed bids last week for the 1994 Ford E-350 diesel ambulance that the city is selling.

Three bids were received. A bid of $4,825 from Mark Henniger, of Kanawha, was accepted. The Stanhope EMS Department will combine funds with other funds raised to purchase the 1999 Chevrolet ambulance being retrofitted and purchased for $10,000.

Installation complete

Tad Stupp, public works superintendent, reported to the City Council that the installation of new exterior siding on the maintenance facility located at 160 Parker St. has been completed. Stupp has secured bids to replace the roof there, one for materials and labor, two for labor only, and another for materials only. After reviewing the bids, the council voted to approve a bid from Lamperts of Webster City for $6,040 for materials and the bid of Legendary Construction for $6,500 for labor services. Legendary Construction is to provide a valid certificate of insurance prior to starting any work.

In another property matter, fire chief Mike Hanson updated the council on renovations to the fire/EMS building. Replacement of exterior siding and replacement of the roof guttering system has now been completed by Seamless Pro's of Jewell, and the billing of $12,508 has been paid from fire department funds.

Hanson reported that he and city clerk Ron McKenzie have completed and submitted a grant application for an Iowa DNR fire grant for radios and pagers in the amount of $4,980.

Also at the meeting, the City Council again took up the matter for pedestrian and traffic safety. On Sept. 24, a speed trailer was placed at the corner of Iowa and Main streets on Iowa Highway 17 to monitor northbound traffic for speed compliance.

The clerk was directed to obtain further information on the cost and possible placement of speed monitoring cameras at the covern of main and Park Streets and report his findings.

Other business

Other council business at the meeting included authorizing Mid-Iowa Truck Service, located at 420-450 Parker St., in Stanhope, to conduct business as a motor vehicle dealer, including sales and repair of motor vehicles.

A request for an appropriation of $760 from Youth and Family Center of Hamilton County for 2013-14 was approved by the council. Approval was given for all appropriations to all supported groups and organizations will be at the same level as FYY 2012-13, with no increase or decrease.
