Fort Dodge Choral Society will present "The Singing Spirit" at 7:30 p.m. at First UCC Church in Webster City and at 3:00 p.m., Oct. 28 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge. The concerts features settings of poetry about music in celebration of the beginning of conductor Bruce Perry's 20th anniversary season with the group and pianist Michelle Havlik-Jergens' 15th year of playing for the choir.
Featured works on the program include Joseph Martin's "The Awakening," Glen Gould's "So You Want to Write a Fugue," three settings of "Music When Soft Voices Die," and Moses Hogan's "I'm Gonna' Sing 'til the Spirit Moves in My Heart."
"The love of music is the driving force that unites Choral Society. As we begin a new season, we pay tribute to the joy of singing: a joy that inspires people to leave the comfort of their own homes each Monday night and travel up to 100 miles each week for rehearsals," Perry said. Admission to either concert is by season membership or available at the door. Ticket prices are $10, $9 for senior citizens and all students are admitted free.
